3 BENEFITS OF SKIPPING EXERCISES - YOU DID NOT KNOW
Skip-hop have produced skipping workout and skipping workshops programs, carefully designed to improve your levels of fitness, agility, coordination and general health. If you think about it, can it be a coincidence that almost all professional sportsmen and women use skipping as part of their daily workout routine.
For most of us, our first contact with skipping rope is on a playground, and it is usually just a game, mostly enjoyed by girls...and usually referred to as "jump rope." However, for many professional athletes, the physical benefits of skipping rope make it an attractive part of their fitness regimen.
We are going to share with you about the 3 benefits of Skipping Exercises you did not know.
#1 PHYSICAL BENEFITS
Skipping will help improve cardio-respiratory (heart and lungs) fitness (or stamina), flexibility, co-ordination, balance, rhythm and symmetry. It is both aerobic and anaerobic. It can be a high-impact exercise and is therefore an extremely efficient way of building bones and toning thighs, hips, calves and gluteus maximus (bottom). Jumping increases levels of calcium, thus helping to prevent osteoporosis. The Osteoporosis Society recommends 2 to 5 minutes of skipping every day to help prevent osteoporosis.
It is often estimated that running can burn, on average, about 600 calories per hour. Skipping rope is estimated to burn about 700. Of course, not too many people are going to skip rope for an hour, but you get the point. One estimate is that rope skipping for 10 minutes is the approximate equivalent of running an eight-minute mile.
Skipping rope is considered to be less destructive to knees than running as more of the shock is absorbed beginning with the ball of the foot rather than the blunt impact upon the heel experienced in running. It is for this reason that, not only do many professional athletes use it as a conditioning method, but it is often practiced by senior exercisers as well.

#2 MENTAL BENEFITS
Memory comes into play with the introduction of skipping rhymes which are particularly used with long rope skipping. These rhymes are not only great fun but help to focus the skipper on the metre, which in this instance is the regular tap of the rope hitting the floor but also the tempo, the actual time it takes for the rope to go through a full revolution.
Both of which are vital in order to skip successfully. Long rope skipping is where the two turners of the rope must coordinate the metre of the turns with one another and work at a tempo attuned with the skill of the skipper. Accented and un accented beats are notable here because for skipping beginners and younger children, the rope turners would turn the ropes to strike the floor only on the accented beats. For intermediate skippers the rope would strike the floor on every beat of the skipping rhyme.
A high level of coordination is needed to be able to skip to a reasonable level. To skip for a continuous period without stopping requires cross-lateral ambi-dexterity and a very high level of fitness. Both sides of the brain, both sides of the body. So, as you will read, statistically, skipping burns twice as many calories as walking. But equally important is the fact that it is a serious laugh. It makes you feel like a young kid again.
#3 IMPROVES BONE DENSITY
High calcium diet is widely known to increase bone density, but so does jumping rope. Surprised? According to studies, jumping for 10 minutes a day can provide greater bone-building benefits than running. Even for elderly and athletes, simply jumping is one of the top effective exercises for boosting bone density.
According to studies, exercise can increase bone density regardless of age. It has been seen that weight bearing exercises stimulate the formation of bone cells by retaining calcium. This is most important for postmenopausal women who start losing bone mass due to depleting estrogen levels.
Skipping burns calories/energy. It develops a more efficient energy system, benefits which will allow the body to burn off more fat and calories when engaging in other forms of exercise. Skipping is also a great protector against Childhood obesity.
These are considered as the main benefits of Skipping Exercises. There are also tons of workout guides on jump rope for beginners on the internet. To spice things up and inject a bit more fun, try performing different tricks and alternate your speed.
